If you have graduated from an acupuncture course in the past five years, or you’re new to personal development or business coaching, then I invite you to join a new group to help you build your acupuncture practice. Most of the training I provide is high level post-graduate training, however I am increasingly aware of the need for support for new graduates in both clinical and business skills.


Do you feel like you are in a ‘sink or swim’ situation?

I know that new graduates can often feel like they are left to ‘fend for themselves’ when they first launch their practice. Our profession does not have an ingrained culture of mentoring, which means less-experienced practitioners often feel afraid to ask questions in practitioner forums, like Facebook groups, in case they are called-out or shamed by more experienced practitioners.

Establishing a business is difficult at the best of times; doing so now, in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, is going that much harder. I do not want to see this crisis lead to a situation where we lose an entire cohort of new graduates from the acupuncture profession.


How can I help?

Naava CarmanI am creating this Mastermind Group to be an accessible and supportive environment where new graduates can discuss clinical and business challenges and learn the skills and habits required to be clinically effective and financially successful practitioners.

The Mastermind Group will be a close-knit team of up to six practitioners, who will work together for a year. We will meet online every two weeks to provide mentoring, guidance, inspiration and, most importantly, accountability.

The fortnightly sessions will alternate between a Mastermind session and a skills development session.


What is the mastermind process?

There are a number of ways of describing mastermind groups, but I like this description from The Success Alliance:

Mastermind groups offer a combination of brainstorming, education, peer accountability and support in a group setting to sharpen your business and personal skills. Members challenge each other to set strong goals, and more importantly, to accomplish them.
Through a mastermind group process, first you create a goal, then design a plan to achieve it.

The group helps you with creative ideas and wise decisions-making. Then, as you begin to implement your plan, you bring both success stories and problems to the group. Success stories are applauded (loudly!), and problem are solved through peer brainstorming and collective, creative thinking.

The group requires commitment, confidentiality, willingness to both give and receive advice and ideas, and support each other with total honesty, respect and compassion. Mastermind group members act as catalysts for growth, devil’s advocates and supportive colleagues. This is the essence and value of mastermind groups.


The Mastermind process is not like formal teaching and I will not simply give you all the answers, because there are rarely a simple set of ‘correct’ answers. I will be challenging you with exercises, discussions and inspirational materials, which you can take away and use to build your practice. However, being part of this group gives you access to me as a clinical and business mentor to help you answer questions you may come across.


What will we cover in the clinical and business skills?

Over the course of the year the clinical and business skill acquisition sessions will cover a wide range of topics, including:

  • Case studies
  • Learning medical history-taking skills
  • Putting together a treatment plan in complex clinical cases
  • Examining in depth common health ailments you might see in clinic
  • Creating a positive customer service environment
  • Learning how to take things professionally, not personally
  • Utilising technical and online organisation and planning tools, de-cluttering phones/computers and our minds in order to streamline our ability to be productive
  • Day and month organisation, planning and scheduling in order to continually move forward in your business
  • Creating efficient paperwork and systems processes
  • Communication around boundaries
  • Finding your ideal patient
  • Goal-setting
  • Content creation and collaboration
  • Instagram and Canva tutorials
  • Overcoming limiting beliefs and fears
  • Mapping and streamlining finances
  • List building
  • Lead magnets


I am always careful to leave room for interesting ideas, thoughts, suggestions and concepts to arise. In a Mastermind you need to be flexible enough to go with the flow of inspiration, whilst holding boundaries strong enough to facilitate learning and growth.

This is not just for practitioners focusing on fertility. I identified my niche in fertility 20 years ago and have dedicated myself to developing my clinical expertise accordingly. Part of the work we will do in the Mastermind will help you find your passion, your voice and your place in the market. That said, anyone wishing to specialise in fertility and related topics will be as welcome as anyone else.


When will the Group meet and how much will it cost?

The Mastermind will provide you with new skills, clinical support, mentoring advice and a fantastic team of colleagues to provide peer-support. We will meet online every two weeks, starting in June 2021, with short breaks for summer and Christmas holidays. To be part of the group you need to make a commitment to participate for at least 12 months.

The cost is £220 per month, paid by direct debit.


How do I register my interest?

I will be interviewing and hand-picking the members of this group to ensure that we get people who are committed to doing the hard work and supporting each other. I would particularly welcome applications from disabled and Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) practitioners, as BAME and disabled people are currently under-represented in our profession.
